Happy Etsy-versary! One-Day Sale for Family and Friends, Fans and Followers

Hard to believe it's been a whole year.  Hard to believe it's only been a year.  But either way - yep, today is our one-year mark on Etsy.  And to celebrate we are having a one-day sale for our family, friends, fans, and followers.

Take 10% off your entire order.  (Excludes shipping fees and our Sweetheart set, since it is already on sale for half off.)  Simply include in your buyer's note where you keep in touch with us (blog - for example) and I will refund 10% of your purchase price via Paypal.  (Or if you prefer you could request a revised Paypal invoice in the buyer's note.)  But it's today only (February 2nd) - so hop on over to the shop and take a peek.

Christmas in July!

It's never too early to get that Christmas shopping done! I try to get mine done early - although I rarely accomplish that feat. Perhaps with all the CIJS's (Christmas in July Sales) going on at Artfire and Etsy I'll get motivated to get a few gifts marked off my list.

I've also started my Christmas in July Sale. Over the next few days, I'll be sharing some of my Christmas listings. But feel free to hop on over and check it all out now. (And check back. I still have more to add.)

Take a peek at my personalized Christmas Stockings. If you need a gift with a personal touch, this is it! Select a color, a pattern, and add a name. We'll create a unique Christmas stocking that will be cherished for years to come.

WeeKnit in Wonderland!

Often I think that we've created every puppet possible, but then someone comes along with a new idea. We made this Alice in Wonderland Set as a customer request. We liked it so much we've decided to add it to our shop.

From left to right, we have the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit, Alicd (of course), the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the Walrus, the Carpenter, the Caterpillar, and it wouldn't be complete without TweedleDee and TweedleDum.

I am very excited. This week the June issue of Parents Magazine will be hitting shelves and mailboxes around the country. Why am I so excited? Sure, it's a great magazine but why would I count down to its release. Simple, I was fortunate enough to have my Bugs Finger Puppet Set featured in it. (I have yet to see it and can hardly wait.) I'm hoping this feature equates into sales (fingers crossed). So if you happen upon a copy of Parents Magazine this month, take a peek and check us out.

I sold quite a few items at Tom and Lucy's Art Shoppe last week. However, I brought quite a bit home as well. So over the next couple of weeks, I am going to try and add a new listing to my etsy shop (http://www.weeknit.etsy.com/) every day.

So here are today's and yesterday's listings.

Custom Happy Family Set

So what's on your to-do list today? Today, I am going to work on a custom order for a Happy Family Finger Puppet Set. I love doing custom orders, especially on the Happy Family set. Why is that? If you look around, every family is different. So why not adjust the Happy Family Finger Puppets to match the people in your Happy Family? My current custom order includes a set of twin babies - one boy and one girl. How cute is that set going to be!

So you are probably thinking what are the possible options when you are working on such a small canvas, so to speak. Well first off, not every family is dad, mom, brother, sister, baby. Have three boys? Four girls? Let us know how many are in your family. Next you can select skin tone and hair color. If you had preferences on clothing color we could accomodate that too. Plus there are some other options as well, such as beards and baseball caps.
So if you're thinking, I want to see my family as finger puppets. Contact me and we will get started on your Happy Family Finger Puppet Set. www.weeknit.etsy.com

Thanks for Voting - Please Vote Again!

I appreciate all of you who took the time to vote for my Easter Egglets in the blockheadradio Artisan's Challenge. They won the knitting, crochet, and needlework category! That means they move on to bigger and better things. They are now in the Weekly Challenge. (Basically, all of the category winners go up against each other this week.) Currently, my poor egglets are getting whomped so please take a moment and vote. It's super easy!

If you hang around to vote in all of the categories, my Old McDonald and Wizard of Oz Finger Puppets are in the knitting and wild card categories.
Thanks you, thank you, thank you!

Where Are You Promoting?

My etsy shop www.weeknit.etsy.com will have it's two-month etsiversary tomorrow. While my mom (aka the Chief Knitwit) has been making finger puppets for decades, the whole online marketing game is still new to me. I'm learning as I go. Terms I didn't know just weeks ago are now part of my everyday lingo. (Blogging, Chatting, Forums, Threads, Posts, Tweeting....oh the list goes on and on.)

So my question today is where are you promoting? What have you found successful? What have you found ineffective? Pass your knowledge on to me and whoever else is looking for some direction.

I feel like my shop, for as new as it is, is doing well. However, I would love to learn from those of you who are saying, "Oh I've been there, done that!" So please comment and share your wealth of knowledge.

My personal knowledge is limited, but here's where I'm spending my time these days. What's working? What's not? I have no idea, but I'm having fun doing it!

  • Etsy - I spend time promoting in both the forums and the chatrooms. I know some of my sales have been a direct result of interactions I've had in these places.
  • My blog - If you're reading this, then you know I have a blog. It's effectiveness?? Hmmm.. you tell me. http://weeknit.blogspot.com/
  • Twitter - I don't quite get tweeting. But I know through google analytics that twitter is sending quite a few clicks my way. http://www.twitter.com/weeknit Plus, it's doesn't take much time.
  • http://www.byhand.me/ - This site seems to be up and coming. It's not a selling venue, but a place for artists to come together and a place for you to bring all your info together as well.
  • Cafemom Etsy Moms (CEM) - Again, a great community of artisans. This time a great group of creators who happen to also have the job of mom. Fun contests, great interaction, friendly members. I would definitely say check them out. http://www.cafemom.com/group/6632
  • http://www.blockheadradiolive.com/ My newest addiction. Listen to some fun and clever artists while chatting and interacting with other listeners (as well as the fun on air talent). Blockhead Rod and AGoodWitchToo are hilarious. Plus, they have a fun competition - the artisan challenge. The winner gets some free promotion. You can't beat that!

  • http://www.weeknit.artfire.com/ Okay, so I just opened shop on artfire. I haven't spent a lot of time there yet. But I figured with a basic option that is free, you can't go too wrong.
  • www.indiespotting.com You can click into their FAQs and get all the info. But again, free promotion rocks!

So what do you got? Please comment and share.

My Very First Treasury!

So I snagged my very first treasury yesterday. Despite a few technical difficulties, hence the hole in the middle, I think it's an adorable collection of kids' creations! Please check it out.

Read It Again Mom!

Maybe it's the mom in me. Maybe it's the teacher in me. (Teaching is the profession I had before becoming "mom". It was the job that paid me. Who knew that becoming a mom would make a teacher's salary seem golden. lol) But I am obsessed with children's books.

To be honest, my obsession started long before I was a mom or a teacher. What's not to love about children's books? Colorful pictures to look at. Few words to focus on. A life's lesson wrapped up in a matter of pages. (Often a lesson needed more by the adult than by the child.) And don't underestimate the meaningful memories created when a parent curls up with his or her child to read a book. "Read it again Mom!" is a phrase uttered by my 4-year old almost daily.

So it's no wonder that some of my favorite listings in my etsy shop are my finger puppet and book combos. I love finding books to pair up my puppets with. Sometimes my mom and I design puppets specifically for a book. It's a fun challenge! I have a few of these listings in my shop right now and I hope to add more. So please stop by and check them out. http://www.weeknit.etsy.com/

My Bear and Friends Set goes perfectly with this Winnie the Pooh Easter Book.
Warning: It's my only one. So if it strikes your fancy snatch it up.

And don't miss every preschooler's favorite dinosaur, Barney. Plus, I have The Velveteen Rabbit (not pictured).
