So it's been some time since my last blog post -- but I have a good excuse. Each and every year the holiday season usually translates into a chaotically busy time for us. But this year, I also welcomed a new baby girl.  Yes, that's my third girl! So as you can imagine, it has been beyond busy. It has been an exhausting, overwhelming, and absolutely fantastic holiday season!

Despite my huge to-do list that has yet to be to-done, I had to swing by the blog to let all my loyal followers know to keep an eye out for our little puppets in the February issue of Martha Stewart Living Magazine.  (There was an oops on the price. But I'm hoping that Martha's readers will be pleasantly surprised that our prices are actually much lower than what was accidentally printed in the magazine.)

I know, I know. I completely fall into the category of blogging slacker, or is it slacking blogger? At any rate, it's been a while since my last post. My only excuse is that my job as mom comes first. And with my girls home during the summer I am afraid that this blog comes up on the list of many things that have been highly neglected.

However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My girls headed back to school this week and with all this newly found time on my hands I have visions of soap operas and bon bons dancing in my head. Okay, so really I would settle for grocery shopping without the squabbling kidlets in tow. lol

So we've been making a custom order that consists of a grundle of beaver finger puppets (the second from the left). That fact alone made my mind start thinking -- I know, a scary thought. Some animals I quickly recognize their collective term. For example, a swarm of bees, a flock of birds, a herd of cows, and a gaggle of geese. But off the top of my head, I couldn't think of what a group of beavers would be called. So how about you? Do you know it? And I mean without the help of the Internet because that would of course be cheating. If you do, go ahead and share in the comments.

So to make a long story short, these puppets have traveled the world!

Basically, we had a wholesale order for these custom mini Nativity sets in London. So off they went across the pond. However, my first experience with the Royal Mail Service did not go well. After a lot of hassle, the customer never could gather up the package before it was sent on its long journey back. By the time I received it, Christmas was a memory and I did not have the heart to make my customer pay for a Christmas-season purchase after New Year's.
The puppets are still in perfect condition and I could certainly tuck them away for next season. However, the customer had a couple of custom requests. The Marys in these sets do not have curls/hair like in our standard Nativity set. And then these sets were packaged in our wholesale brand. (Really not a big deal, just a different name on the topper.) So instead of tearing open the packages to add the curls just to have to repackage them up, I am offering them at half price. Yes, only $5.75 for a 5-piece handcrafted finger puppet set!

Last Easter we added a Nesting Chicken Egglet Family to our shop.

We loved it so much we just had to add a Nesting Bunny Family too.

Basically, you start with the Papa Egglet (either bunny or rooster).

Slide the large plastic egg out of the Papa egg cover, pop it open and you find the Mama.

Slide the medium-sized egglet out of the Mama egg cover and you find the baby.

And now we offering a choice for the baby - you can opt for one of our original baby stuffies or one of our new mini egglets on a small plastic egg.

A Wee Addition

For those of you not familiar with our "Egglets", they are our cute little egg covers that come in a variety of styles including our Easter assortment (chicks, boy bunnies, and girl bunnies).

Now, we've taken the same idea and shrunk them down to fit our mini plastic eggs. Our Mini Easter Egglets don't hold as much (which may be a good or bad thing depending on whether you are doing the filling or the unfilling - lol), but you must admit the itty bitty size makes them all the more adorable.

I know, I know! I haven't checked in for weeks. My blog is feeling highly neglected at the moment so I thought I would stop by and provide all my loyal followers with my list of excuses as to why I haven't posted in ages.

So what's the problem? Well, in the world of wholesale orders the holiday rush starts about the first of September. What? September? Really? Of course - you know that the stores start draping their aisles with twinkling lights and tinsel long before the Halloween items have graduated to the clearance racks. So if they want their Christmas stuff out pre-Halloween, that means the orders are being placed prior to that. Hence, the barrage of orders weighing us down at the moment. Hence, the lack of time for blogging. Hence, my list of excuses.

But no worries! We will keep knitting and sewing and knitting and sewing and knitting and sewing until we are caught up - or our hands fall off - whichever happens first. LOL Speaking of sewing, I have a batch of little elf puppets glaring at me to be finished up. So off I go!

Santa's Crew Just Got a Makeover!

So occasionally we do a bit of updating on our designs. And this week some of Santa's friends have had some changes made, hopefully for the better.

As you can see, Mrs. Claus is now sporting a bun instead of curls - a bit more grandmotherish - hmmm, is grandmotherish a word - well, it is now. Our elf is now more elfish with his pointy ears. And the snowman is now donning a top hat and a protruding carrot nose (which my pic does not do justice to).

Three Little Kittens Finger Puppet Set

Custom Work

So we've had some custom work going on lately. We've done a few custom Wedding Sets this week. We often adjust hair color, skin color, and the flower girl's dress color. I thought it was a bit of a koinkydink that all of them requested flower girls in white dresses. (In fact, I accidentally switched them up when I was taking my pics. Oops!)

This set was a lot of fun! It included the usual Wedding puppets. But it also included a handful of bridesmaids inspired by our fairy friends - dressed in gray with little wings on back.

But my absolute favorite part was the "monster" groomsmen. As you can see, our Friendly Monster puppets are dressed to the nines in their little tuxes all ready for the big day. lol

This week, we also had a customer request a puppet inspired by this guy:

Not an easy feat considering we only have about 8 stitches across to work in our details. Here were some test puppets we came up with. I think we decided on the second one but with a cape.

So here's another new set of our egglets that we just added to the shop. In this set we have morphed some of our most popular Christmas finger puppets into egglets. With this Christmas Egglet Set you will receive a Snowman, Santa, an Elf, and an Angel. (And remember we can always customize orders if you want some other combo or quantity.)

I really think these will make the perfect little stocking stuffer. They would also make a cute and unique gift for all those friends, co-workers, etc. that you feel you should do a little something for but don't want to spend a fortune on. I know, I know! It's not even September yet, and here I am springing new Halloween items on you. (I'll wait a couple more days before I show you the new Christmas listing. lol) But one of our dear wholesale customers requested some Halloween Egglets, so VOILA, here you have them. We have morphed our witch, pumpkin, ghost, and vampire designs into egglets. And of course we had do a set for the online shop.

What is an egglet you ask? Basically, it's our name for our oh-so-cute egg covers. You can slip the plastic egg out of the cover, fill it with any little treat or treasure, slide it back into it's cover, and you have the perfect little gift for those extra special trick-or-treaters in your life.

Five (hmmm, Six) Little Ducks!

At last, a new creation! When we took our poll last week, the Five Little Ducks Finger Puppet Set received the most votes and comments. And we finally made one up!

Now when designing this set, it was one of those cases where it is difficult to decide where to start and stop. The song is five little ducks, so do we limit the set to five ducks? Don't you need the mother duck? We said yes. Hmmm, what about father duck? Some versions of the song include him, others don't. So should we include him? Basically, we settled on the set of six. However, we could certainly adjust it up a duck or down a duck depending on what you wanted. (Just send us a message about a custom listing.)

What Next?

So we're working on some wholesale orders at the moment, but I must admit my mind has been percolating with some new ideas for the shop. I'd love to hear what you'd like to see most, so please vote in the poll to the right. And if you have an idea that's not there, throw me a comment.

These are my thoughts considering the choices:

Five Little Ducks - This set would be very similar to our Five Little Monkeys Set. Basically, a set of our duck finger puppets all dressed up differently. It would be the perfect set to accompany the classic children's song. It would perhaps include more than five ducks - thinking probably the mama duck needs to be there too.
Wizard Friends - With so many books and shows out there revolving around the wonderful world of magic, we thought this might be a fun and popular addition.
More Halloween - We have our original Halloween set, but I can see a whole other set of spooks in us. Vampire, Frankenstein, who know what else?
Halloween Egglets - Pumpkins, witches, etc. morphed into our egglets.
Christmas Egglets - Santas, snowmen, etc. also morphed into egglets.
Nativity Egglets - I think this would make an adorable and unique gift for all those Nativity collectors out there.

At any rate, perhaps we'll get some of these items designed and added. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Do You Sell at Craft Shows, Farmers' Markets, Etc.?

So we've been contemplating the idea of offering our products at wholesale prices to vendors who would want to resell our products at their local shows and markets. (We would require a $100 minimum purchase.) I figured it might be a profitable venture for both of us!

Those of you who are familiar with us know that WeeKnit consists of me (Jenny) and my mom (Tracy). Despite our fun and exhausting (don't believe me - see the pic of my girls below) trip to Florida a couple of weeks ago, my dear mother is headed off to California the first week of August (lucky duck). However, I will still be here trudging along trying to keep things going as best as I can. But truth be told, without my mom here we will not be running full force. So if you have any thoughts of large orders, custom requests, party packs, etc. in the near future, you will want to get them ordered soon so they ship out before she does.

So we have finally added a new creation to the shop -- Monsters United! (This set actually came about as a custom request for a party pack.) Okay....maybe not danger, but just a warning. For those of your with plans of puppets in your near future, please note that WeeKnit's shop will be going "on vacation" from June 30th until July 10th. I would add an unfortuanately to that sentence, but the "on vacation" mode will be utilized for just that -- a vacation! So please forgive me if I am not saddened by the little break WeeKnit will be taking.

Instead of the usual routine of knitting and sewing puppets, we will be headed off to Florida to reconnect with some long lost grandparents (this will be the first time my girls will get to meet them) and perhaps we will even run into a giant mouse of sorts. lol So wish us a happy and safe trip!

For those of you who did have a puppet order in the works, please know that all orders placed on or prior to June 30th will ship out before we leave.

So I must admit - I'm no Superman! In fact, I am a bit of slacker these days. My poor blog has been highly neglected. What can I say - life has gotten the better of me. But before you abandon me and my blog all together, let me explain. You take into account my daily chores of being mom, add in the necessary duties of running WeeKnit (while the blog may get neglected the shop never does), throw some night classes on top of that (in order to keep my teaching license up to date), don't forget the kickball games for dd#1, and add on the planning details of putting together a family vacation together, well I think you get the point. Life is busy!!!

A last minute Easter addition....

So a neighbor asked if we could make her some more of the nesting chickens we made her a while back. Hmmmm...nesting chickens. Did we make those? Well, in fact, we had. Only a little while back was probably a decade or so ago. So after taking a look at the one she had kept for all these years, we made her up some new ones for her grandkids. But we also made a couple extra for the shop. So take a peek at our:

It looks like red received the most votes in my "What Color is Muno?" survey. So in a few days (after I've had a chance to take some new pics), I will be changing the color of my orange friendly monster to red. Although for those of you who voted for orange, I would be still be happy to make him that way as well - you'll just have to request him that way. Thanks to all of you who voted!

My Friendly Monster Finger Puppet Set was inspired by the toddler favorite Yo Gabba Gabba. When designing the set, I thought the one-eyed monster seemed to be an orange-red color. However, my yarn selection is not like a box of crayons and I had to pick one to go with. So I made him orange.

I have quickly found that some customers prefer him orange, while others prefer him red. I decided it would be best to offer him in both colors. However, I would like my default color to be what the majority of consumers would say he is.

So here it is.....off to the right in the sidebar, please vote what color you would classify Muno (the one-eyed monster).

Sometimes I think I spend too much time looking at what I don't have. It's easy to focus on the materialistic aspects of this life. I often find myself frustrated with my basement crammed with stuff. Certainly life would be better if my house had a garage to store all this stuff in! Hmmmm....my kitchen is so small. Oh the meals I could whip up if I had one of those fancy gourment kitchens with stainless steel appliances! What the truck is broken down again - if only I could afford a new vehicle! You see - it's easy, isn't it.

But if you take moment to look at what you do have, it's easy to be grateful for the blessings in your life and to help pay it forward to those in need. I have two beautiful girls. We have a roof over our head and food in the cupboards. Each night, we lovingly tuck our precious jewels into their nice warm beds. You must admit those few moments of gazing upon those sleeping faces are some of the most rewarding (and quiet) moments of parenthood. But those fleeting silent moments are usually preceded by splashing in the tub, brushing teeth, getting pajamas on, and reading a book. Those moments are not as quiet but still important.

However, when many families find themselves low on funds those are the things that have to go by the wayside. Many children don't have a warm set of pajamas or a book to read. So we survived the Christmas rush...barely! I think "wee" were Santa's unofficial little helpers. I can't even guess how may little ones found our finger puppets in their stockings on Christmas morning.

(Monday will be our last shipment before Christmas. The shop will remain open and taking orders. However, orders received after Monday's shipment will not ship out until after Christmas.)

Orders are shipped out first-class mail via the USPS. If you would like Priority Mail, please contact us about adjusting your listing to include Priority Mail. And I suspect those of you ordering just before the Monday shipment will need Priority Shipping in order to hopefully receive your puppets before Christmas. It looks like the Christmas train is chugging toward us at fool speed. So it's our last little Christmas push before the knitting brigade (my mom, sister, and I) hang up our needles and take a break for the hoidays. (A well-deserved break might I add. LOL)

Our brand new Pirate Finger Puppet Set includes 2 pirates, one I like to call Captain Blackbeard and the other I call my swabby pirate (complete with eye patch), and 3 of their animal friends, a parrot, a little dressed-up monkey, and a crocodile. So "wee" have another new creation here at WeeKnit. It's a Wedding Finger Puppet Set. It includes a Bride, a Groom, a Flower Girl, and a Ring Bearer. My thinking behind this set is that it would be a perfect little gift for a flower girl, a ring bearer, or any little one that is being swept up into the chaos of a wedding. A little something fun that will help them gear up for the wedding.

And much like my Happy Family Set, we could do some customizing to this set. I have a few colors to work with as far as skin tone and hair color. And we could always change the color of the flower girl's dress to better match your flower girl. As always, this set is available in both of our shops.
